Shop with Sarah
The professional organiser and interiors/design shopping tour founder shows us some of her home favourites

Inspiring her 19,000 followers on instagram, selling out seats months in advance for her popular shopping tours and keeping herself busy organising spaces, Sarah Shanahan is making her mark on Adelaide homes.
Sarah thrives on order in her full house of six (two daughters and two sons), making it beautiful and peaceful for her family, who all gain the benefits of living with a professional organiser.
After years of helping friends and family bring beauty and order to their homes, the time came for Sarah to take it to the next level.
Organising and decluttering homes for the past six years, there’s no doubt Sarah loves what she does. “To clean out a pantry or a messy linen closet makes me so happy!” she says.
Inspired by The Oprah Winfrey Show’s resident de-cluttering guru Peter Walsh, Sarah says she just had to be a part of it. “I immediately joined AAPO (Australian Association of Professional Organisers), attended a few conferences interstate and felt I had found my tribe,” she says.
The 47-year old began her Shop with Sarah shopping tours two years ago, following a tour in Melbourne with her girlfriends. “When I got home I thought, why not Adelaide?” she says.
The popularity of her tours exploded across the Adelaide homewares shopping scene, and the curated VIP shopping experience, complete with chauffeured mini bus, includes many bonuses throughout the day, such as discounts and goodie bags.
If she’s not organising, shopping, styling or de-cluttering Sarah loves hanging out at home with her family. “If the boys don’t have sport I’ll sneak out for coffee with my girls. I also love a little drive through the Hills with my husband, picking out my future dream houses!”
At home with Sarah Shanahan
Professional organiser and founder of Shop with Sarah shopping tours (interiors/design day tours around Adelaide and the Hills).
I LIVED IN MY HOME FOR . . .
Eighteen years. I live with my husband Matthew, twin girls Annie and Bess, two boys, Patrick and Fergus, and Barney, our cocker spaniel.
MY HOME IS A . . .
1905 Queen Anne villa.
I LOVE MY HOME BECAUSE . . .
It’s my favourite place to be. It’s calm and organised, filled only with things that bring me joy. Marie Kondo would be proud!
BUT I STILL NEED TO . . .
Finish the outdoor area. A covered entertaining area would be fabulous.
MY DECORATING STYLE
Definitely a touch of Scandinavian with a modern, minimalist Australian vibe.
MY FIRST CAR WAS …
I was a bit late to the car scene and only got a car when I was married and it was a icky pasty blue Commodore (don’t remind me!)
I LIKE TO LISTEN TO…
A gorgeous woollen “Forestry” New Zealand throw from White Home Boutique.
Being in the de-cluttering business I shouldn’t collect anything, but I do love a vintage spoon or two. They’re always popping up on my Instagram feed and don’t take up too much room.
Definitely the kitchen/dining. It’s in the new part of the house and gets beautiful natural light streaming in all day.
– My Marimekko stretched canvas; it calms and relaxes me. My kids tell me I need to update it but I would miss it too much.
– My David Trubridge pendants over our dining table, the first big purchase after we renovated, which is a lovely memory.
– My Marimekko teapot, from a holiday to Barwon Heads; another lovely memory and its simple design just makes me happy.
I COULDN’T LIVE WITHOUT…
Embarrassingly, my phone.
WHEN I GET HOME AT NIGHT…
I see what my amazing girls are cooking up; always something delicious and healthy. I’m a lucky girl – they can’t move out just yet.
If I’m not hosting a shopping tour I like to go out for coffee with my girls or a drive in the Hills with my husband.
CLEAN FREAK OR MESSIE BESSIE
I have a daughter, Bessie, but I’m definitely a clean freak!
ON MY WISH LIST IS…
WHEN I’M HOME I LOVE TO COOK…
In winter it’s all about soups and I love baking. A cake in the oven makes the whole house happy.
Hula Hoop Wine Bar is a local favourite.
IN THE GARDEN…
It’s quite minimalist, like the interiors, lawn, box hedge, ornamental pears and fabulous garden sculptures my fatherin- law made.
AS A CHILD I WANTED TO BE…
In the Australian cricket team. I was a bit of a tomboy and loved cricket thanks to constantly playing with my brothers.
DREAM HOLIDAY DESTINATION
A Scandinavian holiday taking in all things design – and the Northern Lights.
SOMETHING I WANT TO ACHIEVE IN THE NEXT 10 YEARS
That Scandinavian holiday. Oh, and a New York shopping tour would be fun.
MY NEIGHBOURS ARE…
The best! A lovely Italian couple who bring us treats and homegrown vegies.
IF I COULD AFFORD IT I’D LIVE…
In Stirling. I’m a winter girl and adore the Hills. I think I’d be living by myself, though.
My happy place.
